Airbnb Acquires Luxury Resort Brand, Adding 4,000 Homes To It’s Inventory
Although currently, Airbnb has three million homes in around 50,000 cities around the world, they plan to add 4,000 more homes in 100 different places to their website for people to keep enjoying the ability to rent a couch for the night or a whole place.
Airbnb has announced that it acquired Montreal-based luxury retreats, which has over 4,000 homes in 100 different places around the world, a move that increases the number of properties Airbnb can offer customers, while at the same time offering a new way of doing business for the sharing economy-based company.
The company intends to have Luxury Retreats continue to operate as a separate entity in the near-term, but in the long-term, Airbnb will begin to integrate the properties into its own product. the employees that currently work for Luxury Retreats will remain, and Airbnb expects to invest further into the Montreal-based company.
The news further changes the company as it attempts to become an all around travel brand, rather than just a place where couch surfers can find a place to crash for the night. Currently, the company has about 3 million homes listed on its website in over 50,000 cities around the world.
